In 2022, after an eight-year closure and the lifting of Sydney’s lockout laws, the Abercrombie reopened its doors. The timing was fortuitous: the city’s nightlife was (and remains) begging to be re-energised. Three venues now operate within its renovated walls: Lil Sis, an intimate wine bar; Casa Rosa, the rooftop bar; and Abercrombie, the club, bar and kitchen.
The Abercrombie is a unicorn in the Sydney hospitality landscape. Solotel has retained its 24-hour licence – an especially rare jewel for a venue that doesn’t make you regret every decision that led you to be there at 4am.
Generations of punters have come-of-age partying at The Abercrombie. Now, its diverse music programming has intergenerational appeal, while offering enough spaces to keep the 48- and the 18-year-olds partying in peace.
Underneath the impressive cantilever of the new corner skyscraper, little original hotel remains spare for the corner façade. Still, debaucherous tales of the pub’s history remain embedded in neighbourhood lore.
Check out the Abercrombie’s club program next time you’re in Sydney and feel like absolutely sending it.
